VIBRANT BAKAU

On your morning Land Rover Safari Tour hear about the history of Gambia oldest town and see why people love to call it Bakau Kachickally. Bakau is rich in history and you will travel past many significant architectural buildings.

THE CROCODILE POOL

The Kachickally Sacred Crocodile Pool is re-known by local Gambians for its healing powers and as a place where people come to pray for blessings. Most of the times seen as a place of last resort for infertile women who wish to conceive. Here you will encounter free walk amid a bask of crocodiles and could touch them too, our local guides will advice you on which crocodiles to touch, all you need to do is relax and get your camera ready while the tour goes on with our informative commentary guides.

BAKAU MUSEUM

 The Bakau museum situated within the Kachickally complex has a collection of over 900 historic artifacts kept in four African round huts, which details the history of the Bakau area and displays cultural objects from many of the ethnic groups of The Gambia. The exhibits are divided into various sections: music, agriculture local craft, initiation rites and traditional medicine. 

Abuko Nature Reserved

First given some measure of protection in 1916, when the Lamin Stream which flows through the  forest was fenced to form a water collection point.The enclosure of the stream showed an increase in the stock of wildlife and flora in the forest. It is the first nature park among six protected wildlife management parks in the Gambia. The flora consists of a typical savanna and grassland, forest landscape. 

 Among its Fauna are a three primate species; red  Monkeys, Velvet monkeys and Pasta monkeys, other mammals include squirrels, antelope Porcupines, African palm civets mongooses, galagos and several types of rodent including cane rats. You can also find reptiles such as Monitor Lizards, Nile Crocodiles, dwarf crocodiles, spiting Cobra, black Cobra, Python,Puff adder and green mamba with more more than 270 species of birds. At one end of the site are several enclosures, which serve as an orphanage for needy animals, including an enclosure in which a pack of hyenas is held.

THE PARADISE BEACH

Tanje fishing village/ market

At the Tanje fish market you will see local pirogues roll in the waves. Women ferry fish merrily to shore atop their heads with buckets and crowds swarm the beachfront. On show and on sale is everything from smelly, sea creatures and radiant peppers to bright flip-flops and clothing. The market is open every day and incredibly photogenic.
